International Cooperation Unit

The unit aims to strengthen cooperation with foreign associations, organizations and institutes related to Institute's activities in order to exchange expertise and experiments through the following:
  1. Suggest areas of bilateral cooperation with diplomatic institutes in other States and preparing technical cooperation agreements with its supportive organizations, for the exchange of visits and experts and joint research in order to take advantage of its experience in supporting the activities of the Institute, and the convening of conferences and symposia in coordination with relevant departments at the Institute.
  2. Preparing and updating a database of diplomatic institutes and professional organizations and the international institutions working in the same field and activities of the Institute, and to identify possible areas of cooperation and benefit of workers in the offices of international organizations and diplomatic missions through hosting services.
  3. Conduct local, regional and international open and closed conferences and symposiums to discuss topics and issues that fall within the competence of the Institute.
  4. Induction of programs for staff working in foreign diplomatic missions and their families in coordination with the management of development programs, in order to familiarize them with systems and habits prevailed in the Kingdom.

Activities of the International Cooperation Department during the first half of 1427H

International Cooperation Department witnessed during the first half of 1427 many activities, communications, lectures, symposia and other scientific meetings aimed at strengthening contacts of Diplomatic Studies Institute and the consolidation of bilateral relations with the diplomatic institutes in order to take advantage of their experience in supporting the activities of the Institute and held private meetings with a number of official States, which has cooperation relations with the Kingdom in order to exchange experiences and expertise and to take advantage and spread the spirit of cooperation between the Institute and stakeholders in these countries as follows:

In 27 January 2006, the Department of International Cooperation invited head of Economic and Business Affairs at Holland embassy Mr. Rob Decker, to visit the Institute. He was accompanied by one of the embassy's employees in the Kingdom, where Dr. Walid Al Nowaiser, supervisor of administration, in a visit across the institute and gave them a due explanation about activities undertaken by the Institute and the goals it seeks to achieve.

In 14 February 2006, the International Cooperation Department received an invitation from his Excellency James Aboroitr, the American Ambassador in the Kingdom in the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the first meeting between King Abdul Aziz �may Allah's mercy be upon him'' and the American president Rozfelt, where accompanied by the supervisor of administration a group of Diploma program scholars in the Institute. The goal of such visits is to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries and the personal development of students and develop their diplomacy skills.

In 11 March 2006 American cultural attache met his Excellency General Director of the Institute in his office, they discussed during the meeting a number of issues, including cooperation between the Institute of Diplomatic Studies and the American Institute in Washington, through the exchange of visits and experiences. It was also agreed the American embassy in Riyadh in coordination with the institute, universities and research strategic centers to invite intellectuals and experts in the fields of politics, law and economics for conducting lectures in the Diplomatic Studies Institute in Riyadh.

In 29 March 2006, a reception festival was held with the supervision of the Institute's International Cooperation directorate and the presence of a group of ambassadors and consuls and representatives of the embassies of the European Union and North American headquarters in Riyadh. Where a meeting between diploma students and guests who answered students questions, institute's management discussed during the ceremony with guests possible avenues of cooperation with their embassies and possible coordination with the International Cooperation Department to allocate a representative from each embassy in order to be the focal point accredited to the embassy.

In 3 April 2006, a meeting with the Pakistanian ambassador was held in order to discuss the proposed visit of the Pakistanian delegation at the end of May, and possible cooperation between the Institute and studies center of Pakistan.

In 9 April 2006, a meeting was held with Dr. Sicyprz interview, Professor of Political Studies at the Free University in Berlin to discuss ways of cooperation between the Institute and the Department of Political Studies by initiating a Master program in the university in cooperation with the Gulf Research Center in the United Arab Emirates, through abroad study. The Institute welcomed the idea and expressed his support.

In 19 April 2006, Dr. / Tachew Sano, the Japanese ambassador in charge held a lecture titled "Japanese diplomatic relations and the evolution of the Saudi Japanese relations" where he discussed the development of Japanese diplomacy after World War II and Japanese relations in the light of the visit of Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz to Japan, which praised the distinguished relations between the two countries over the past several decades. The lecture was attended by some officials of the Foreign Ministry and the faculty members and Diploma students.

In 26 April 2006, the Institute invited His Excellency Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom / Ian Biggs, to deliver a lecture entitled "Reducing the spread of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East." which discussed the mechanism of the International Energy Agency and its activities to curb the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world and the challenges facing the Agency and the international community in general and the Middle East in particular. The Ambassador also discussed inclinations of the Agency to make the Middle East a free zone of weapons of mass destruction. The lecture was attended by some officials from the Foreign Ministry and the faculty members and diploma students.
