The Emergence of Diplomatic Studies Institute
Institute of Diplomatic Studies was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs officially on 8/5/1400H. And started its session's year 1399/1400H in Jeddah, starting with a management office, library, language laboratory, two classes and some offices for other sections, the Institute began its training session to accept full-time students in the diplomatic studies diploma program.
Faculty members and English teachers were selected, in addition to hiring a number of professors in the field of economics and international relations, political science and languages through a contract signed with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Also printing and shorthand trainers were selected. Cooperation with Saudi university professors was done for the purposes of teaching and providing advisory services.
After transition of the institute's headquarters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh on 16/12/1404, expansion and deepening of the Institute's training programs were achieved in order to enroll different government employees concerned along with diplomats from Gulf States, Arab and Islamic countries, in order to evolve and expand institute's programs and diverse divisions, that required the provision of more offices and classrooms, language labs, so that its headquarter was moved on 6/10/1424H.
Vision:
- To be a distinct institute at the global level in order to rehabilitate and develop skills of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant government agencies employees working in diplomatic field, and enhance their performance to any assigned tasks efficiently as per the requirements of modern diplomacy in light of sequential international changes.
- To be think tank prominent center able to analyze, develop and explore Kingdom's foreign policy, suggest and evaluate different strategic options that will be useful for the Kingdom.
Mission:
- Achieve the strategic objective of the Ministry aiming to establish and develop its employee's skills in the field of diplomatic work and sustain them with the knowledge and skills they need to perform their duties in an outstanding performance in terms of quality and style of service delivery and how to interact with others through the continued development training programs
- Meet the expectations of board's council aiming to transform this institute to intellectual centre able to analyze, develop, evaluate and explore foreign policy and what of interest to the Kingdom, and set out different alternatives that could be applied in accordance with variable local, regional and international changes through the creation and infrastructure development for the distinct status for Studies and Research able to support the efforts of officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this area.
- Seeking to enhance services provided by the Institute and develop its activities in a manner that reflects the spirit of responsibility and innovation, using the highest standards of performance, commitment to working with the departments of the Ministry and local institutions related activities, regional and international institutions in accordance with the directives of the board for the development and implementation of the Institute's activities in order to achieve its objectives.

Fundamental objectives of the Institute (Core Objectives)
- Building and developing information, skills and abilities of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies staff related to diplomatic work through the organization of training programs and developmental training courses.
- Access, update and organize, exchange knowledge and participate in the organization of symposia and panel discussions and conferences in the diplomatic field, international relations and other topics related to the activities of the ministry.
- Perform and publish studies, research and reference books in the areas of diplomacy and international relations and strategy.
- Provide advice to the ministry in the development of various activities
